Late last month, the Department of Ocean Science and Engineering of Southern University of Science and Engineering (SUSTech) hosted a symposium on “Noise Imaging, Dense Array Observations, and Continental Dynamics Research.” The symposium was co-organized with the China Dynamics Committee and the Institute of Geology and Geophysics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. 130 researchers from 45 institutions and universities attended the symposium.
Chair Professor Chen Xiaofei of SUSTech’s Department of Earth and Space Science joined fellow Chair Professor Chen Yongshun of the Department of Ocean Science and Engineering at the symposium. Office of Research Director Zhao Yusheng welcomed all the attendees at the opening ceremony.
In recent years, there has been a substantial change in seismological observation technology, namely the development of noise imaging and dense array observations. Noise imaging and dense array observations are used in a variety of continental dynamics and microseismic monitoring. A lot of research has been done, both domestically and internationally, in this field and breakthroughs have been made in both theoretical and applied observations.
The two-day symposium provided a communications platform for seismological researchers across China. They took the opportunity to promote theoretical research, innovations in methodology and new applications of noise imaging and dense array observation technology. This symposium will further enhance the development of basic scientific research.
