Classical Music Festival To Fill SUSTech’s Spring with Sound in April

Following the Traditional Culture Festival in March, there is a Classical Music Festival brought to you by SUSTech Center of Arts, Office of Communications & Public Relations, and Office of Students Affairs. With a slogan of “Enjoy the Spring Blossoms at SUSTech,” the festival shall take place from April 13 to April 28.

The festival will feature five live performances:

Performance #1

Time: April 13

Place: Faculty’s Home[CE1] 

Event: Analysis of Rolf-Dieter Arens’ Upcoming Solo Piano Concert

Artist: Professor Wang Changkui

Famous piano teacher Wang Changkui will carefully analyze the famous piano pieces to be played by German artist/educator Rolf-Dieter Arens on April 19, so that the prospective audience can have a better understanding of Arens’ performance.

Time: April 19

Place: Faculty’s Home

Event: Piano Concert

Artist: Rolf-Dieter Arens (former director of Liszt School of Music Weimar)

“Les Jeux D’eaux À La Villa D’ Este” by Liszt, and “Fantasia in D Minor” by Mozart are some of the songs Rolf-Dieter Arens will play at his solo show. From Mozart to Beethoven to Lester, the audience can take a walk-through time and space with these music masters.

Time: April 23

Place: Faculty’s Home

Event: Charms of Classical Music: Violin, Viola, and Piano

Artists: He Xiaorui and Zhao Li

To enhance SUSTech students’ and faculty’s knowledge of classical music, violin and viola player Hao Xiaorui and pianist Zhao Li will provide the audience with basic knowledge of violin, viola, and piano. They will also as well as analyzing the music performed with these instruments.

Time: April 24th

Place: Conference Hall, Faculty Research Building #1

Event: Violin Concert

Artists: He Xiaorui and Zhao Li

On April 24th, violin and viola player Hao Xiaorui and pianist Zhao Li will hold a charity concert called “Love and Care Autism.” As the brand new charity ambassador of the United Nations, Hao’s performance can have a positive effect on the shy or the mentally ill people.

Time: April 28th

Place: Faculty’s Home

Event: Symphony Concert

Artists: He Xiaorui and Zhao Li

Without any music major background, the SUSTech Symphony Orchestra aims to become a top-notch student symphony orchestra among science and technology universities. It will be their debut performance, and they will be playing famous pieces such as “The Four Seasons – Spring” from Antonio Lucio Vivaldi, echoing the theme of this month’s music festival.
