In order to enhance the safety awareness of new students and build a safe campus, SUSTech held three “2018 New Year Safety Education Theme Lectures” for its freshmen to attend as a series.

The safety education theme lecture consists of two parts: safety education, anti-drug and anti-fraud education lectures. It aims to make freshmen aware of potential dangers, enhance their self-protection ability, and improve their mutual rescue skills. It also sought to improve students’ knowledge of drug types and hazards, as well as enhance their anti-drug understanding.

Director Liu Lianfu of the Office of Safety, Health, and Environment spoke to the freshmen first. He spoke about campus safety and emphasized the importance of safety education. He also said that it is essential to strengthen communication with students in order to improve safety education.

Zhang Yihe, an expert from the Shenzhen Emergency Management Society, gave the lecture about fire safety and emergency. He started with the three aspects of “campus safety, off-campus safety, and family safety.” Zhang enumerated plenty of examples, organically combining safety knowledge with real life, in order to make students realize the importance of being safe on campus. He also taught on-site the “two sessions” (that is, the safe evacuation path is smooth, the fire extinguisher is operated properly, call the authorities). Zhang covered common safety knowledge and skills such as escape and self-help.

The anti-drug education lecture saw Han Jun from the first compulsory isolation and drug rehabilitation center of the Shenzhen Municipal Bureau of Justice speak to the students. He explained the harm caused by drugs through detailed information and real cases. Han also talked about how to avoid accidentally “attracting” and “mistakenly inhaling” drugs. He hoped that everyone would consciously resist the temptation of drugs and actively participate in the fight against drugs.

A simulated drug display area was specially set up outside the lecture. The teachers and students attending the lecture stopped to visit and asked the police officers about how to identify drugs, how to resist drugs and other related issues.
