On June 17, Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) launched the first session of “SUSTech and Me.” Faculty members from different academic departments came to share their experience of being with SUSTech. Communications and Public Relations Director Ling ZHANG chaired the meeting.

Communications and Public Relations Director Ling ZHANG spoke about the background of the activity. He was looking forward to hearing the stories from the SUSTech community and how they interpret their relationship with SUSTech. It provides SUSTech an opportunity to reflect on its past and look to the future.

2020 marks the 10th anniversary of the establishment of SUSTech. SUSTech will continue to talk to those that had helped build SUSTech, as we aim to recognize the thousands from all walks of life who have contributed to the development of SUSTech. It would also operate as a platform to display its achievements throughout this decade of development and exploration of reform and innovation. “SUSTech and Me” was launched on April 16, and a series of books will be published from the essays and creative writing submitted.

The first book will focus on research groups. Department of Statistics and Data Science Professor Guoliang TIAN, Department of Chemistry Associate Professor Zongxiang XU, and Department of Computer Science and Engineering Assistant Professor Bo TANG all spoke at the launch.

Zongxiang XU reflected on when he first joined SUSTech and its development as he has worked on campus over the last eight years. Guoliang TIAN pointed out that an educator’s primary responsibility is to teach and educate students, and SUSTech has brought together a world-class faculty team. Bo TANG shared his experience of working with his students, supporting them to help them find the infinite possibilities available to them.

Several students also provided their perspective on their relationship with SUSTech. They spoke about the abundant resources that SUSTech has provided for their research and the support of their mentors.

Documentary writer Qinghua SHEN was also present, incorporating new content for SUSTech. He asked many questions of the attending scholars and students, who all supported the development of SUSTech from a broad range of perspectives. They all planned to continue to support SUSTech moving into the future, as part of the “SUSTech and I” series.
