The Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) recently held its inauguration ceremony for its Alumni Association Philharmonic Club and New Year Symphony Concert, which was jointly organized by the Alumni Association (SUSTechAA) and the Center for the Arts.

Ling ZHANG, University Council Vice-Chairperson and Chairman of the Trade Union, violin soloist Gleb Dontsov, pianist Liyan HE, conductor Yi WANG, heads of related departments, alumni association members, faculty members, and student representatives attended the event.

In his remarks at the establishing ceremony, Vice Chairperson Ling ZHANG spoke about the development of the SUSTechAA.

He said that establishing the Alumni Association Philharmonic Club would further enrich the high-quality cultural life of the alumni and bring together those with a passion for music.

Vice Chairperson ZHANG presented the letter of appointment and club flag to the person in charge of the Alumni Association Philharmonic Club.

He also presented honorary letters of appointment to Hui LIU, Director and Chair Professor of the Center for the Arts at SUSTech, Liyan HE, Pianist, Yi WANG, Chair of the Shenzhen Philharmonic Chamber Music Society and Conductor of the SUSTech Symphony Orchestra, and violinist Gleb Dontsov.

Jun GENG, Secretary-General of the Alumni Association at SUSTech, spoke about the club’s establishment and introduced the Philharmonic Club executive team.

Zengyi LI, Chair of the Alumni Association Philharmonic Club and alumnus, said he would strive to strengthen the connection between alumni and his alma mater, organize music-themed activities for the alumni, and promote exchanges and cooperation.

The New Year Symphony Concert was held after the ceremony as the Alumni Association Philharmonic Club and the SUSTech Symphony Orchestra performed many classical pieces, which included violin and piano performances from Gleb Dontsov and Liyan HE.
