In October, the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) took place in Beijing. General Secretary XI Jinping delivered a report to the 20th CPC National Congress on behalf of the 19th CPC Central Committee, summarizing the work of the past five years and the great changes of the last ten years of the new era, and drawing a grand blueprint for the development of the next five years and longer.
As the 20th National Congress was taking place, faculty members and students of the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) tuned into the meeting to study, understand, and implement the objectives and tasks set forth at the Congress.
In order to deeply study, publicize, and implement the spirit of the 20th CPC National Congress, the SUSTech Party Committee made overall plans and set about implementing these goals in various stages at all levels throughout the University, and implement the spirit and strategies of the report to empower the building of SUSTech into a world-class research university. After the session concluded, the SUSTech Party Committee and various departments of the University held meetings to discuss the different steps of studying and implementing the spirit of the 20th National Congress.
Fengliang LI, University Council Chairperson, and Qikun XUE, President of SUSTech, took the lead in conveying and studying the spirit of the 20th National Congress. In total, 27 special meetings were held at the University around the spirit of the report, the spirit of the "Two Sessions", and a series of important speeches by General Secretary XI Jinping.
In the report, XI Jinping stressed invigorating China through science and education and developing a strong workforce for the modernization drive. He also pointed out that China must regard science and technology as the country's primary productive force, talent as the primary resource, and innovation as the primary driver of growth. With a mission to explore and develop a modern university system with Chinese characteristics, SUSTech plays an important role in the strategy of invigorating the country through science and education under the guidance of the spirit of the 20th National Congress and following the decision-making and deployment of the Party Central Committee.
The high-quality development of the University is driven by carrying out original and leading scientific and technological research and the transformation of scientific achievements, nurturing and attracting talents from all over the world.
The University will implement the medium- and long-term development plan (335 strategy), and contribute to the building of Shenzhen's Pilot Demonstration Zone, developing a talent highland in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA), and the transformation of the country.
In 2023, SUSTech will continue to study and implement the spirit of the 20th National Congress through various projects and actions, with the aim of building SUSTech into a world-class research university with global influence.
