The University has made outstanding achievements in intellectual property management, achievement transformation, and collaborative innovation of industry-university-research funds, providing a solid foundation for the University's "Double First-class" construction.
SUSTech deepens strategic cooperation and collaborative innovation with leading enterprises and provides core technology for enhancing the competitiveness of the industry. Through the university-enterprise cooperation model represented by joint laboratories, the University jointly carried out research on key core technologies for future industrial development.
This year, SUSTech cooperated with leading enterprises in various industries and established all-around cooperative partnerships. It's 24 university-enterprise joint laboratories, established in 2022, target the practical problems of industry and social needs and are committed to accelerating research for economic and social development. SUSTech also organized a total of 78 online and offline university-enterprise matchmaking activities for communications between the academy and the industry.
In 2022, one of SUSTech's main focuses is to protect technology, R&D, and innovation through increasing its investment in high-value patent projects. The quality of patents and intellectual property management has steadily improved. The University has targeted ten key technology fields to incubate high-value patent projects. The related office will accelerate the process of patent authorization of the high-value project through rapid pre-examination and other approaches.
In 2022, the University submitted 857 patent applications (a year-on-year increase of 7.5%), including 801 domestic patent applications (invention patents accounted for 82.5%) and 512 newly authorized patents (a year-on-year increase of 63.6%), of which 500 domestic patents (including 324 invention patents) were authorized.
As for its research outcomes, SUSTech yielded fruitful results. Since it became one of the pilot units for individually managed scientific and technological achievements in Guangdong Province, the University has comprehensively increased the transformation of achievements. It has implemented a hybrid transformation model after the empowerment of scientific and technological achievements. From a total of 107 scientific and technological achievements (a year-on-year increase of 55%), 17 projects successfully completed transformation of these achievements. The total value of the conversion contract exceeded 90 million yuan.
The University explores a new model of mixed transformation revenue that stimulates the enthusiasm of research teams for technology transformation. As a result, 46 new scientific and technological achievements were empowered. All of them were industrialized, with a total value of more than 19 million yuan, of which more than 14 million yuan was awarded to the teams that completed the projects. SUSTech carried out industry-university-research cooperation in new ways, and promoted the integration of S&T and finance, such as applying blockchain technology to support empowerment reform of scientific achievement.
On November 8, SUSTech completed the blockchain deposit certificate for the empowerment registration of ten scientific and technological achievements, such as "A connection structure with a multihull and four intellectual property rights " on the blockchain deposit platform of the Scientific and Technological Achievements and Intellectual Property Exchange Center of the Shenzhen Stock Exchange, and the Science and Technology Exchange Center issued the relevant authorization information registration preservation certificate.
SUSTech is the only strategic cooperation unit of the Shenzhen Stock Exchange Science and Exchange Center, which took the lead in building and completing the special area of scientific and technological achievements of academic section, and became one of the key sections of the science and technology exchange center system.
From November 15 to 19, SUSTech participated in the 24th China Hi-Tech Fair with many cutting-edge technologies, promoting a number of university-enterprise cooperation and the application of scientific and technological achievements. The SUSTech exhibition booth for this year's fair focused on six aspects: "Double First-Class Universities", "University-Industry-Research Ecosystem", "Digital Intelligence", "Green and Low-Carbon", "R&D Institutions", and "Innovation and Entrepreneurship", concentrating on key areas of emerging industries such as artificial intelligence, Internet of Things, robotics, electronic information technology, new materials, high-end equipment manufacturing, and green and low-carbon.
The exhibition attracted extensive attention from professionals and experts, to counterparts from universities and research institutions, venture capital institutions, financial service institutions, etc. Some projects reached cooperation intentions with visiting representatives during the exhibition, and SUSTech won the Excellent Organization Award issued by the organizing committee.
