On the morning of April 27, 2015, Secretary Li Ming and SUSTC President Professor Shiyi Chen headed a delegation to the Open University of Hong Kong (OUHK), accompanied by Han Wei, the Deputy Director of the Preparation Office, as well as relevant directors of the University and Party Affairs office, International Cooperation Department, Office of Teaching Affairs, Network Information Center, Preparation Office of UNESCO Category II Project. The delegation was warmly received by President Professor Wong Yuk-shan, Vice President Professor WONG Shek-nam Danny and Professor LEE Wing-on, et al of the OUHK.

President Professor Wong Yuk-shan expressed his warm welcome to the visit of SUSTC delegation, hoping the two universities could combine their educational goals and characteristics to cooperate and benefit the people, thereby providing support force in terms of personnel training to the economic transition and economic & social development of Shenzhen and the Pearl River Delta Area.

Secretary Li Ming and President Shiyi Chen showed their gratitude to the warm reception from President Professor Wong Yuk-shan. President Shiyi Chen pointed out that, the name of Open University of Hong Kong in English, the word “open” expressed an open and tolerant attitude as well as the width to provide quality educational resources to the public, and its educational philosophy and teaching methods reflected flexibility and innovation; and from the perspective of cultivating the top creative talents adapting to the society, the school-running objectives of OUHK and SUSTC had a consistent direction. Meanwhile, President Shiyi Chen pointed out that OUHK had an important influence in the fields of Asia distance education and open learning, and SUSTC would like to work together with OUHK to jointly lead and promote innovation and development of the higher education in China.

Witnessed by Secretary Li Ming, President Chen Shiyi and President Huang Yushan signed a memorandum of understanding on behalf of the two universities. After the signing ceremony, President  Shiyi Chen was interviewed by Ta Kung Pao and Wen Wei Po,the Hong Kong-based newspapers.


SUSTC Delegation Visited the Campus

The delegation also visited the campus, laboratory, etc., accompanied by President Wong. Meanwhile, representatives from our university’s Network Information Center and the Preparation Office of UNESCO Category II Project visited the Media Laboratory and exchanged views on educational and technological development, online learning development and other topics with relevant persons in charge.
