Guo Yurong invited to lecture on “Pingshan Education Forum”

Earlier this week, Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) University Council Chairperson Guo Yurong was invited to the Pingshan Education Forum by Pingshan Senior High School to discuss talent training in the new era. Pingshan District Secretary for Education Peng Yao gave Chairperson Guo Yurong an appreciation award to thank her for coming to the forum, which was attended by more than 400 people.

The Pingshan Education Forum was set up by the Pingshan District Education Bureau to comprehensively improve the quality of education in Pingshan district. It aims to train a group of excellent famous teachers. The forum regularly invites domestic and foreign educational experts and scholars, with outstanding principals. The forum has featured several famous people who have made significant contributions to the Pingshan community and consulted for education in Pingshan.

Chairperson Guo Yurong spoke about “Talent development in the new era.” She talked in detail about talent training in the new era. Her speech analyzed the development of talent pipelines in the shadows of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Chairperson Guo Yurong systematically scrutinized the different development courses of universities at home and abroad, before discussing SUSTech’s reforms, developments and innovation measures of SUSTech, especially the positive exploration of the students ‘ innovative ability, comprehensive accomplishment, and personality development.

Chairperson Guo Yurong stressed that training students for their future careers is a priority for universities, so in the new era universities should pay more attention to students’ general education. As a result, students will be able to realize all their innovative ideas in many ways.

Secretary Peng Yao said that in the Fourth Industrial Revolution, areas such as big data, artificial intelligence and rapidly changing science and technology will require new ideas for the development of education. These new ideas will need to be flexible in adapting to the needs of training people.

Following her speech, many principals and teachers from primary and middle schools asked questions, which Chairperson Guo Yurong took with good grace.
