As part of the 9th China Electronic Information Expo taking place in Shenzhen, the Guangdong Province 5G High-Frequency Device Innovation Center and 5G Industrial Technology Alliance were launched.

The establishment of the 5G High-Frequency Device Innovation Center is expected to solve the bottleneck problem of the core technology breakthrough over the next few years. It also seeks to create the first industrial applications in the 5G medium and high-frequency fields. The Innovation Center will enhance the development of the 5G industry and guarantee the supply chain in China.

Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) Vice President Teng Jinguang joined Deputy Director of Guangdong Provincial Department of Industry and IT Yang Pengfei, Director of the Shenzhen Municipal Economy, Trade and Information Technology Commission Jia Xingdong, Deputy Director Xu Zhibin and Futian District Mayor Ye Wenge. More than 200 people attended the launch ceremony.

Mobile communication technology is an important driving force for the scientific and technological revolution that is pushing industrial transformation today. 5G communication is not only influencing emerging technologies such as Internet of Things (IoT), block chain, big data, and artificial intelligence but also provides key support for China’s strategy for manufacturing power.

5G high-frequency devices and core chips are solutions to achieving large-scale commercial business success of 5G communication, but the core technology has become a bottleneck restricting its development China for a long time. The creation of the 5G innovation center in Guangdong Province is of great strategic significance for 5G mobile communication and related industries in China.

Vice President Teng Jinguang said that creating the 5G High-Frequency Device Innovation Center was a significant step toward implementing the manufacturing power strategy in Guangdong Province. He congratulated everyone, saying that he looked forward to the development of the Center.

Deputy Director Yang Pengfei said that the Innovation Center would gather a wealth of research and develop resources in order to become an important venue for 5G industry innovation within Guangdong Province. The Innovation Center will also be an essential platform for promoting common R&D technology across different technological platforms, while ensuring businesses are successfully incubated, technology is transformed into actualized products and the entire 5G industry is pushed forward.

Director Xu Zhibin hoped that the Innovation Center would continue to provide accurate insights into market demand for 5G products, so that it can better integrate Shenzhen’s advantages in industrial changes management and efficiently provide solutions. The acquisition of innovative resources will result in effective promotion of Chinese-made 5G high-frequency devices. By making breakthroughs in strategic common technologies, the industry will improve rapidly which results in their focus moving to solving design and technical issues of medium and high-frequency devices.
