Hundreds of entrepreneurs visited Southern University of Science and Technology

Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) saw hundreds of entrepreneurs descend upon campus to attend an event about “Industry-university-research cooperation in the Greater Bay Area.” SUSTech University Council Chairperson Guo Yurong and Vice President Tang Tao attended the event, with Chief Financial Officer Ye Qin hosting the event. Many well-known entrepreneurs also attended the event.

The event was organized by the SUSTech Education Foundation (SUSTCEF), the eHealth Industry Alliance, Dershare, and the Zhongguancun Private Equity & Venture Capital Association (ZVCA) among other platforms. The event sought to discuss the development of industry, academia and research across the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area.

Chairperson Guo Yurong thanked everyone who had supported the development of SUSTech. She briefed the audience about SUSTech from different perspectives. Chairperson Guo Yurong said that SUSTech had taken root in Shenzhen’s reform and innovation. Since its establishment, SUSTech remained committed to adopting innovative measures for higher education reform. She hoped that through this event, SUSTech would further strengthen exchanges and cooperation with leaders from all walks of life. It would be a good opportunity to work together to promote reform and innovation of China’s higher education and contribute to the Greater Bay Area.

Vice President Tang Tao combined the development of world-class cities with the development of top international universities as a reflection of the relationship between first-class cities and universities. He pointed out that first-class cities generate first-class universities, and the long-term development of first-class universities integrates vitality and energy into cities. Vice President Tang Tao hoped that society would jointly participate and promote SUSTech’s high-quality development, in order to assist in the scientific and technological development of the Greater Bay Area.

SUSTech Technology Transfer Center Director Zhang Zuotai talked about the development of teaching and research of SUSTech. He expanded on industrial technology transfer at SUSTech, focusing on a wide range of issues.

Deputy Dean Zhang Bi of the College of Engineering talked about the development of the talent pipeline at SUSTech. Cultivating talent is at the core of SUSTech and the College will actively explore the joint industry-university model. They will also promote the development of new engineering.

Student representative Li Xiaoyang shared his own story at SUSTech. He explored SUSTech’s unique talent training mode, discussing topics like the interests of the subject, determining his development direction and its global vision.

In a round-table forum, participants chatted about “industry-university cooperation, the role of modern business associations, and contributions to the healthy development of industry.” All the panelists said that the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area brings unprecedented opportunities to SUSTech, and they were all keen to work with SUSTech in promoting industry-university cooperation, integration of industry and education. They also want to work together to promote the scientific and technological innovation and development of the Greater Bay Area.
