On the afternoon of May 3, a research team led by Wang Rong, Chairman of Guangdong Provincial Committee of the CPPCC, visited SUSTech and expressed confidence in the university’s development. Other members of the team included the CPPCC Provincial Committee’s Vice Chairman, Secretary General and Director of the General Office as well as Provincial Deputy Director of Education. SUSTech Council Chairman Li Ming, President Chen Shiyi and other leaders attended the research meeting.

On behalf of SUSTech, Li Ming expressed gratitude to the visit of the research team, saying that it had been motivating SUSTech to become a university of science and engineering leading Guangdong Province. He also reported on the university’s work on party building and school management.

President Chen Shiyi reviewed the university’s progress in implementing the strategic development plan of “building a world-class research-based university in China” from aspects such as responsibility and objectives, positioning and blueprint, discipline development, talent cultivation, scientific research, international cooperation and campus beautifying. Subsequently, he further detailed measures and policies for discipline development in light of current challenges and opportunities in Guangdong.

Having listened to the reports, Chairman Wang noted: their research on universities of science and engineering leading Guangdong Province was to examine and promote Guangdong’s further development. The great economic strength of Guangdong needed to be matched with a powerful education. Located in Shenzhen City, one of the most vibrant and creative metropolitan in China, SUSTech was established to help it become a more innovative metropolitan. Besides, SUSTech’s development experience could shade light on national higher educational reformation. Seeing the splendid achievements of the university, he expressed his confidence in its tomorrow and hoped that it would break new grounds at the new starting point.
