Over the weekend, Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) unveiled its High Performance Science and Engineering Computing Center (“Computing Center”).
SUSTech Vice President Lu Chun unveiled the Science and Engineering Computing Center together with director of the Computing Center Wang Lianping.
Lu Chun said that the Computing Center provides significant opportunities for research and teaching at SUSTech, and reflects positively on the development prospects of many disciplines and industries. The Computing Center also bodes well for China’s future competitiveness.
Director Wang Lianping spoke about the development status and work plan of the computing center.
Following the unveiling ceremony, SUSTech hosted its first high-performance computing seminar. Senior leaders from SUSTech, other universities and corporations around mainland China presented at the seminar. They spoke on a wide range of supercomputing related issues.
The SUSTech Science and Engineering Computing Center was established in October 2018. Its main task is to manage SUSTech’s super-computing public platform, provide services for SUSTech’s users and improve their ability at using supercomputers. It also seeks to cultivate super-computing talents and is committed to improving the influence of the Computing Center. It currently manages two large-scale super-computing clusters, Qiming and Taiyi. Both clusters are public computing platforms with a total of more than 40,000 computing cores and a total computing power of over 2.0 petaflops (Pflops).
