| 08/26/2016

On 26 August, 2016, Guangdong Undergraduate Electronic Design Contest was closed at SUSTech. More than 700 teams from over 60 colleges and universities in Guangdong Province, such as Sun Yat-sen University, South China University of Technology and Jinan University, contested for the best electronic design of software applications on the theme “Healthy Electronics”. All the 6 teams from SUSTech won medals, including 1 gold, 3 silver and 1 bronze medals.

SUSTech Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering joined hands with Zhiren College to carry out a two-month in-class training. Three instructors were invited for the training, including Assistant Professor Zhang Jin and Chair Professor Han Pinlian from Zhiren College, and Zheng Tao from Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. During this period, both teachers and students did a lot of preparation work. They jointly planned the pre-contest trainings and set design plans for each team. Finally, 6 outstanding teams were sent to South China University of Technology for contest and received collective review at the provincial level.

In the contest, the team instructed by Professor Han Pinlian and Professor Zheng Tao won the first prize, whose members were He Wuqing, Wang Meihua, and Peng Wending. It was the first time that the “zero-based” contestant Wang Meihua attended the contest. He said after the contest: “I learned a lot in this fulfilled and meaningful summer vacation.”

Guangdong Undergraduate Electronic Design Contest (known as “Guangdong E-Design”, hosted in every even-numbered year) is a branch of National Undergraduate Electronic Design Contest (known as “National E-Design”, hosted in every odd-numbered year). Both contests are science and technology events for undergraduates, aiming to advance the reforms on the curriculum of IT and electronics programs in institutions of higher education. The contests are closely integrated with relevant courses in colleges and universities, attracting a large number of contestants. They can encourage cross-discipline cooperation among students and bring about more innovation in the era of the Internet of Things, thus winning high recognition by institutions of higher education and all walks of life.
