Professor Lu Haizhou from the Department of Physics and the Shenzhen Institute of Quantum Science and Engineering (SIQSE) at Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) was announced this week as a recipients of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars. He has received support for his project entitled “Electronic Transport Theory of Topological Materials in Magnetic Fields.”

Dr. Lu Haizhou received a bachelor’s degree in physics from Lanzhou University in 2002 and his doctorate from the Institute of Advanced Study of Tsinghua University in 2007 under the supervision of CAS Academician ZHU Bangfen. In 2007, Dr. Lu began his postdoctoral research at the University of Hong Kong under Professor Shen Shunqing and was promoted to Assistant Research Professor in 2012. In 2015, Dr. Lu Haizhou joined SUSTech, where he is currently a professor in the Department of Physics and SIQSE.

He is primarily engaged in the study of condensed matter physics. His research interest is to use quantum field theory to study the phase and electronic transport in new materials such as topological materials. Many theoretical works have been supported and applied by experiments. Dr. Lu Haizhou has published more than 70 papers in top international journals, such as Physical Review Letters and Nature. He has been cited more than 3,000 times. He is an outstanding reviewer of the American Physical Society.

The Fund mainly supports young scholars who have outstanding achievements in basic research, to conduct research in cutting edge areas, and to cultivate a group of outstanding international academics.

After 24 years of development, a large number of recipients were elected as CAS and CAE members. They are also favored  by high-end scientific and technological talents projects in China.
