On the afternoon of February 20 2017, M. Jamal Deen, President and Fellow of the Academy of Science of the Royal Society of Canada and Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering gave a lecture titled “Smart Sensors –Research, Trends and Opportunities” to SUSTech’s faculty and students at the library. The lecture was moderated by Xu Zhenghe, dean of Department of Engineering of SUSTech.
In the report, Dr. Deen pointed out a number of environmental and medical problems facing many countries and introduced the role of the smart sensors’ application in solving these problems. In his point of views, the high integration, low power consumption and low cost of smart sensors can contribute to solving these problems.
Later, he introduced heart monitors and joint monitors which are the subject of his research group. He said smart sensors played a vital role in the success of their research results. During the lecture, he also showed strong conviction in the future of smart sensors, saying that alongside the continuous development of science and technology, the application of smart sensors will have a bright future and therefore will bring greater benefits to people’s lives.
After hearing the lecture, students showed strong interests in smart sensors and raised many questions to Dr. Deen during the Q & A part. Dr. Deen answered their questions one by one and wished them to achieve success in their research.
