Fraser Forbes, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, University of Alberta Canada visits SUSTech

On March 21st, 2017, the University of Alberta’s Director of the Faculty of Engineering Dr. Fraser Forbes came to visit SUSTech. He was joined by Vice President Tang Tao and other guests for discussions.

Professor Tang welcomed Dr. Fraser Forbes to the university campus and introduced him to the teaching and research facilities, students and teachers and expressed his hope that such visits can sow the seeds for future exchanges and bilateral collaborations between the two institutions.

Discussions centred around joint research projects, joint training for PhD students, exchange programs for undergraduates and various other areas where collaboration would create a synergy. Dr Fraser Forbes was accompanied by the Vice-President of the Department Ying Tsui, as well as the Director of the Nanofabrication and Characterization Facility Dr. Eric Flaim. Professor Xu Zheng, Head of the School of Engineering here at SUSTech was also present for the discussions.

The University of Alberta is located in the state capital of Edmonton and was founded in 1908. Along with the University of Toronto, the McGill University, and the British Columbia University it ranks in the top 5 education institutions of Canada and in the world’s top 100. It is a founding member of the Canadian U15 University Alliance and a member of the World University Coalition. A number of Royal Society members have passed through the university, and it ranks 5th in the application of US patent, and also ranks 5th in terms of total funding for scientific research making it one of the leading science and technology institutions in the world.
