Earlier this week, the Office of Teaching Affairs welcomed Professor Zhang Haixia from the School of Electronics Engineering and Computer Science at Peking University to Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech). Professor Zhang spoke about “Being a Good Teacher in the New Era,” with scholars from across SUSTech coming to listen to her presentation. Director of the Office of Teaching Affairs Huang Kefu presided over the lecture.
Professor Zhang Haixia is the founder and general chair of the International Contest of innovation (iCAN), in which tens of thousands of students from hundreds of universities in more than 20 countries at home and abroad participate every year. She is the President of the iCAN Alliance, the Secretary-General of the Global Chinese Society of Micro-Nano-Molecular Systems, the Founder and Chairman of the Global Innovation Education Conference, and a member of the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Committee of the Ministry of Education.
Professor Zhang Haixia drew on her years of experience to provide the secret to excellence of pedagogy in the new era. She cited the triumvirate of “survival, innovation and balance,” as she emphasized the need for bravery in innovation, integration of innovative ideas into education and scientific research, and trying to create break-through innovations in scientific research while excelling in education.
Following the lecture, the Q&A session saw many questions for Professor Zhang Haixia, mostly coming from each scholar’s personal teaching and research experience, wanting to find new ways to live up to the mission of SUSTech in the new era.
