On May 21st 2017, the former vice-president of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Professor Gan Yong and members of the Academy of Engineering and Sciences of both China and Hong Kong came to SUSTech to discuss the future development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao region. Li Fengliang, vice-chairperson of University Council, Vice-President and Education Provost Wu Chuanyue and SUSTech lecturer and member of the Australian Academy of Engineering Professor Liu Ke welcomed the visitors, and the meeting took place along with the chief officers of the Strategic Planning, Human Resources, Research, Technology Transfer Center, Innovation and Entrepreneurship Research as well as many others in the Executive Building 301 meeting room.

Speech by Li Fengliang
Li Fengliang welcomed the academician and his entourage on behalf of the university. He introduced the general development of SUSTech as well as its mission and objectives, governance system and operational mechanism, personnel team building and scientific research. He said that the Shenzhen-Hong Kong economic integration had become an unstoppable trend, and that with the goal of accelerating the development of higher education, the city of Shenzhen hopes that SUSTech and Hong Kong universities will be able to cooperate in fields such as personnel training, scientific research, platform construction and other many other aspects.
Speech by Wu Chuanyue
Wu Chuanyue said that as the founder of the international first-class research-oriented university, SUSTech hoped to cooperate with the national Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Bay strategy to strengthen the joint education with Hong Kong universities in areas such as training students and shared scientific research centers, and that future regional development should focus on university cooperation.
Gan Yong’s speech
Gan Yong said that SUSTech is of very high interest in the education circles thanks to its reforming and innovating vision. He said he hoped that it can become a centre point in the region’s future development, to provide personnel training, higher education cooperation, management innovations and many other progressive ideas with close relationships with Hong Kong universities.
At the talks, the two sides exchanged views on the future development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area and the Hetao area.
Guests visit the planning sand table
During the visit, the guests were introduced to the university’s building planning sand table and second stage of the campus development plan.
