The Shenzhen Institute for Quantum Science and Engineering (SIQSE) held its Autumn Strategy Seminar at Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) last weekend. Chinese Academy of Science (CAS) Academician and SIQSE Dean Yu Dapeng hosted the strategy seminar.
The strategy seminar was attended by many high-profile quantum physicists and engineers from across China, and senior officials from provincial science and technology departments, including CAS Bureau of Academic Divisions Head Wang Jianyu and Deputy Director Wang Yulong of Basic Research and Research Division of the Guangdong Provincial Department of Science and Technology.
Dean Wang Jianyu talked about the development of single photon detection technology and Mozi, the first-ever quantum communications satellite launched by China in 2016.
SIQSE Dean Yu Dapeng spoke about the achievements of the Institute over the last 12 months and its plans for 2020. Professor Lu Haizhou, Associate Researcher Liu Song and Associate Researcher (Deputy Director of Research Center for Development of Scientific Instrumentation) Zhang Zhensheng summarized their team’s efforts and major projects
Deputy Director Wang Yulong spoke on behalf of the Guangdong Provincial Department of Science & Technology, saying that the provincial government is committed to basic research and is keen to promote quantum science projects. He encouraged the attending scholars to become active quantum science researchers and wished the best for SIQSE.
SIQSE Deputy Dean Zhang Shouzhu closed the strategy seminar by saying that SIQSE would take advantage of the Guangdong provincial government’s policies to further promote quantum science.
There were significant discussions on interesting topics between attending scholars and experts, creating a lively atmosphere throughout the strategy seminar.
