SUSTech leaps forward in 2020 QS World University Rankings : Asia

On November 27th, Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings Networks released its 2020 QS World University Rankings : Asia. Southern University of Science and Technology has leapt up the rankings to 137th in Asia and 33rd in mainland China, out of 118 universities in mainland China and 557 universities across Asia in the QS Asia University Rankings 2020.

This represents significant progress for SUSTech, having improved from 188th to 137th in Asia and making the top 25% of all universities in Asia. Similarly, SUSTech has jumped 10 ranks in mainland China, from 43rd to 33rd.

In terms of overall scores, SUSTech’s total score this year was 37.1, representing a 25% increase on last year. The total score is more than 20% higher than the average score of Asian colleges and universities, and more than 12% higher than the average score of mainland Chinese colleges and universities. SUSTech’s faculty-student ratio was exceptionally well-regarded, scoring full points, ranking 1st in mainland China and 4th in Asia. The number of faculty with PhDs also earned SUSTech full marks in that section, ranking it first in mainland China and 21st in Asia. SUSTech maintained its high citations per paper score, earning a near perfect 99.4. This saw SUSTech ranked 8th in mainland China and 14th across all of Asia.

The QS World University Rankings : Asia have been published since 2009 by Quacquarelli Symonds Global Education Group (QS). The ranking is updated every year, and its evaluation system includes academic reputation (30%), employer reputation (20%), faculty-student ratio (10%), staff with PhD (5%), citations per paper (10%), papers per faculty (5%), international research network (10%), international faculty (2.5%), international students (2.5%), inbound exchange students (2.5%), and outbound exchange students (2.5%).

Quacquarelli Symonds Global Education Group (QS) is a British international education market consulting company. The QS World University Rankings have been recognized by the International Association of Experts (IREG), established by the University Rankings International Experts Group (IREG) in 2010. It has the largest number of participating institutions and the widest scope of influence. QS World University Ranking works in collaboration with academic publishing group Elsevier, and now covers 12 global and regional ranking tables, including QS World University Rankings, QS World University Rankings by Subject, QS World University Rankings : Asia, QS Latin America University Rankings 2020, and QS BRICS University Rankings 2019.
