On December 5, Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) saw the first student council meeting take place. Representatives from residential colleges, graduate schools and student organizations meet with a wide range of senior SUSTech leaders.
The student council sought to build better bridges between the student body and different departments on campus. It also aimed to assist better development of SUSTech through high-quality debate and deliberation. SUSTech hopes to cultivate ownership of the university through the student council system, by encouraging students to solve problems and communicate issues with senior leaders.
Student representatives actively spoke and expressed their views throughout the meeting. The leaders explained their duties to the student representatives in a relaxed and lively atmosphere.
The first student council was well-received by all and was generally thought to be a positive step in the right direction for enhancing student-leadership communication.
