On December 20, the Guangdong Provincial Higher Education Industry-University Research Seminar (Seminar) was held at Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech). Guangdong Province Deputy Governor Qin Weizhong and Guangdong Provincial Department of Education Director Jing Lihu joined other officials from different provincial and municipal government departments.
SUSTech Acting Vice President (Research) Zhao Yusheng spoke about the integration of science and education, as well as industry-university research. He presented in front of leaders from the Shenzhen, Dongguan and Guangzhou Municipal Governments, as well as his colleagues from South China Agricultural University (SCAU), SUSTech, Shenzhen Polytechnic, and Huawei Technologies. Representatives from those institutions also reported on their findings in those fields.
The purpose of this conference is to build consensus, promote the government, enterprises, and universities to jointly promote the integration of industry-university education. It sought to vigorously promote organic connections between education, talents and industry to form a new driving force of scientific and technological innovation, research. The deepening integration of science, technology, industry and education would promote the high-quality development of higher education in Guangdong Province.
Following the meeting, government leaders led a delegation to SUSTech. They received a briefing about SUSTech and its industry-university educational integration. Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) Head Shan Xiaowen, Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) Head Cheng Xing, Mechanical and Energy Engineering (MEE) Chair Professor Wu Yongbo and School of Innovation & Entrepreneurship Research Associate Professor Liu Zhengbai all made specific presentations on their results in industry-university education.
Twenty SUSTech-run enterprises also presented their scientific achievements across a wide range of industries. The delegation also visited the Institute of Robotics where they saw a demonstration led by MEE Professor Zhang Wei. They observed a drone demonstration by MAE Head Shan Xiaowen.
