On March 25, the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) began its COVID-19 vaccine rollout on campus. Fengliang LI, University Council Vice Chairperson, and Chun LU, Vice President of SUSTech, led a team to a temporary site for the vaccination.
The vaccination program in Shenzhen is implemented under the government’s unified arrangement at a provincial and national level. China’s Ministry of Education has issued a notice to ask local education departments and universities to cooperate with local vaccination work proactively.
The document urged local education departments and universities to join hands with local health departments in making reasonable plans for on-campus inoculations, thus organizing the vaccination of local schools in batches in an orderly manner. Vaccination must be done upon informed consent, voluntarily and free of charge, the notice said.
The University will organize on-campus inoculations for faculty members, students, and staff to avail of in various stages. For this first round, around 1,200 people in SUSTech will be vaccinated.
