On December 10, 2021, the First Faculty and Staff Representative and the Second Trade Union Member Representative Conferences of the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) were held in the SUSTech Convention Center.

Fengliang LI, University Council Chairperson, Qikun XUE, President of SUSTech, Chun LU, Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Dongxiao ZHANG, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost, Dongfeng GU, Acting Vice President, Xueming YANG, Acting Vice President for Research, faculty members and staff, and representatives of trade union members attended the meeting.

President Qikun XUE spoke at the conference. In his remarks, he said that this is the first time the University has held a faculty and staff congress since its establishment. He reviewed the development and achievements of SUSTech in 2021 in terms of party building, university governance, talent training, teaching and scientific research, enrollment, campus construction, international cooperation, and university culture.

He said that 2021 was a successful year, with everyone working hard to achieve growth and success in areas such as scientific research, campus construction, student recruitment, etc. The University established its motto of “Virtue, Truth, Advance”, clarified its “Five Major Action Plans” based on a “three-step” development strategy, setting a blueprint for the University’s development in the new era.

He added that it’s an important time for the University to start again in the second decade and promote the development of a new type of research university.

Yang ZHANG, Vice Chairman of the Labor Union, Youyu CHEN, Deputy Head of the Office of Human Resources, Jun FENG and Baoxia LENG, representatives of the Faculty Congress, and Qingsong LIU, Head of the Office of Human Resources, presented reports at the conference.

Afterward, a group discussion was held where the participants made constructive comments and suggestions on relevant topics.

The General Assembly elected members of the Executive Committee of the First Faculty Congress and the Second Trade Union Committee of SUSTech.

In his closing speech, Chairperson Fengliang LI said that this meeting was an important platform for listening to faculty and staff’s thoughts, summarizing and reflecting on events in the last year, and promoting the development of various undertakings for the upcoming year.

He said that one of SUSTech’s greatest assets is its faculty members and staff, and it’s necessary to hear their opinions and suggestions and resolve any issues they have encountered. The University will attach great importance to their feedback and take the appropriate steps and measures to continue making improvements daily.
