SUSTech’s Xiaowei SUN receives Slottow-Owaki Prize

Xiaowei SUN, Chair Professor of the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering (EEE) at the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), was recently awarded the Slottow-Owaki Prize in recognition of his continuous dedication to educating and training students and professionals in the flat panel display industry in China and Southeast Asia.

Dr. Xiaowei SUN is a Chair Professor of SUSTech, Executive Dean of the Institute of Nanoscience and Applications (INA), founding Head of the Department of EEE, and an honorary doctorate of the Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics (BSUIR). He has long been engaged in the research of flat panel displays.

He is an Academician of the Asia-Pacific Academy of Materials, and a Fellow of several academic societies, including the Optical Society of America (OSA), International Society for Optics and Photonics (SPIE), and the Institute of Physics (IoP, UK) and he is the first scholar from Chinese mainland to become a Fellow of the Society for Information Display (SID).

While teaching at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NTU) and SUSTech, Prof. SUN has trained a large number of high-end technical talents in the field of flat panel display (more than 50 with a Ph.D.).

The Slottow-Owaki Prize is awarded for outstanding contributions to the education and training of students and professionals in the field of information display. The award is made by the Board of Directors acting on the recommendation of the Honors and Awards Committee and funded by a generous donation from Dr. Tsutae Shinoda and Fujitsu, Ltd.
