Between November 7 and 8, the Times Higher Education (THE) Innovation and Impact Summit 2023 was held at the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech).
The two-day event was themed “Universities and Cities: Advancing Sustainable Innovation” and was joined by over 200 government, academic, and industry representatives from 18 countries and regions worldwide.
The summit brought together 44 speakers representing academia, industry, and innovative city governance, exploring topics such as the importance of universities in supporting the creation of new cities and new regional economies, how city authorities can best set the environment so that businesses can invest and universities can prosper, the power and influence of local city leaders on universities that operate within a national system, and the types of universities that are needed by cities with fast-growing populations.
