SUSTechers receive multiple honors at OpenHarmony Technology Conference 2025

The OpenHarmony Technology Conference 2025, hosted by the Technical Steering Committee of the OpenHarmony project group and organized by Huawei, recently took place at the Changsha International Convention and Exhibition Center.

A team led by Chair Professor Perry Shum from the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering (EEE) at the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) received several accolades at the event.

At the award ceremony, the OpenHarmony Technology Club of SUSTech was recognized as a Pioneer OpenHarmony Technology Club in recognition of its strong organizational development and vibrant community culture. Its Galaxy Resonance-OpenHarmony@SUSTech Innovation Season series stood out for its creativity and impact, earning the Starlight Activity award.

Chair Professor Perry Shum, who is also the Deputy Head of the Department of EEE and Director of the OpenHarmony Technology Club at SUSTech, was honored as a Starlight Mentor. Meanwhile, master’s student Bingshen LUO received the title of Starlight Contributor.

In the OpenHarmony 2025 Annual Competition Bootcamp, SUSTech students competed against top developers from institutions and industry nationwide. After several rounds of competition, the University’s “Chasing Light” team earned the event’s only Special Innovation Award.

In a sub-forum at the conference, Bingshen LUO and undergraduate Ziyuan LI presented reports, sharing SUSTech’s efforts in ecosystem building, talent cultivation, and technological innovation, earning high praise from participating experts and scholars.

Established on January 4, 2025, the OpenHarmony Technology Club of SUSTech is a student-led organization founded under the Department of EEE. Initiated by faculty and students passionate about open-source technology, operating systems, and Internet of Things (IoT) innovation, the club aims to promote open-source culture, nurture technical talent, promote collaboration among academia, industry, and research, and build an innovative ecosystem. It provides a platform for students to learn, exchange ideas, and develop OpenHarmony-based applications.

To date, nearly 100 members have earned HarmonyOS Developer Certification, and over 40 have obtained Advanced Developer Certification.
