On October 19, the 2025 IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems (IROS 2025) convened in Hangzhou.

Jiaxuan ZHANG, an undergraduate student from the Department of Mechanical and Energy Engineering (MEE) at the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), was awarded the Workshop Best Paper Award (2nd Place) as the first author.

IROS is jointly organized by the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society (IEEE RAS), IEEE Industrial Electronics Society (IEEE IES), the Robotics Society of Japan (RSJ), and the Society of Instrument and Control Engineers (SICE).

This year’s event was co-hosted by Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Zhejiang University, China Jiliang University, and the Zhejiang Association of Automation.

Widely regarded as one of the most influential international conferences in the field of robotics and intelligent systems, IROS 2025 was held under the theme “Human Robotics Frontiers.” It attracted nearly 3,500 experts and scholars from more than 60 countries and regions, alongside over 300 industry representatives and more than 4,400 students, setting a new record in participation.

The award-winning paper, entitled “Feature Matching-Based Gait Phase Prediction for Obstacle Crossing Control of Powered Transfemoral Prosthesis,” presents a feature-matching-based gait progression algorithm capable of accurately predicting joint angle trajectories and gait progression for powered transfemoral prostheses during obstacle-crossing movements.

The research was jointly supervised by Lecturer Yixuan GUO and Professor Chenglong FU from the Department of MEE.

The preprint is available on arXiv: https://arxiv.org/abs/2510.24676
