On the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the founding of Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), a gastronomic feast ignited campus vitality. From December 7 to 8, our university held the “Youth Food World, SUSTech’s Hundred Flavors” Campus Food Culture Festival, attended by Professor Xiaodong HAN, acting as Vice President. Teachers and students enthusiastically participated on-site, creating a lively atmosphere.

This food and culture festival features more than 40 themed exhibitions and a variety of interactive activities, including diverse food zones and cultural display areas, as well as incorporating intangible cultural heritage performances such as lion dances, Sichuan opera face-changing, sugar painting, and paper-cut silhouettes.

The highlight of the Food Culture Festival, the “Artisan Cuisine” Flavor Competition, has attracted much attention. Professional chef teams from the various school-operated cafeterias showcased their skills on the same stage, integrating their solid culinary foundations and innovative ideas into meticulously crafted dishes. A judging panel composed of experts and students conducted on-site tastings. The competition provided an exchange and creativity platform for campus chefs, and the winning dishes will be selected to be included in the regular cafeteria menu.
Lu XU, Party Secretary of the Facilities and Campus Services Office, stated that the Food Culture Festival is not only a vivid showcase of the campus’s diverse cultural exchanges but also an important window to demonstrate the continuous improvement of dining services at SUSTech, as well as a means to foster emotional bonds among faculty, students, and the campus spirit. She hopes that the Food Culture Festival will become a warm and distinctive calling card for the university, continually injecting vitality into the campus life of faculty and students.
This food culture festival was far more than just a feast for the taste buds; but a vivid practice deeply rooted in cultural traditions, fulfilling the educational mission, and fostering campus spirit. It allows teachers and students to appreciate the richness of Chinese culture while enjoying delicious food.
