On the afternoon of February 8, 2026, in Conference Room 101 of the office building, the awarding ceremony for Xiao Wei SUN was held, Executive Dean of the Institute of Nanoscience and Applications (INA) at Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) and Chair Professor of the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering, as a Foreign Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Alexander Sigov, President of the Russian Technological University and Director of the Department of Nanotechnology and Information of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and Olga Nazarova, Assistant to the President, paid a special visit to SUSTech to confer the certificate on him. Ling ZHANG, Deputy Secretary of the University Party Committee of SUSTech, attended the ceremony.

Alexander Sigov highly praised the rapid and high-quality development of SUSTech. He stated that the Russian Academy of Sciences is a world-leading research institution, and Professor Xiao Wei SUN’s election shows the international academic community’s recognition of his original and distinctive contributions in the fields of nanoscience, optoelectronics, and information devices. It also demonstrates the continuous improvement of SUSTech’s research level and international academic influence. He looks forward to further expanding cooperation between both sides in the future, learning from each other, deepening strategic cooperation in technological innovation and talent cultivation, jointly advancing science and technology for the benefit of human society. Ling ZHANG, on behalf of the university, congratulated Professor Xiao Wei SUN on his election as a foreign member of the Russian Academy of Sciences. He stated that SUSTech upholds an internationalized educational philosophy, encourages original research and interdisciplinary studies, and has nurtured a group of scholars with international influence, including Professor Xiao Wei SUN. He hopes to take this awarding ceremony as an opportunity to further deepen cooperation with the Russian Academy of Sciences and related institutions, work together in basic research and joint talent training, enhance the level of internationalization, and contribute wisdom and strength to the development of human scientific endeavors.

Alexander Sigov presented Xiao Wei SUN with a certificate of Foreign Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The university presented commemorative medals to the Russian guests.

In his speech, Academician Xiao Wei SUN expressed his gratitude for the recognition from the Russian Academy of Sciences, the support and cultivation provided by the university, and the support from all parties. He stated that this honor is an important milestone in his academic career. He will continue to explore the area of nano-optoelectronics and display technology, meanwhile promoting scientific exchanges between SUSTech and Russian Academy of Sciences.
