The 2026 Guangdong Provincial University Taekwondo Championship was held at the Shenzhen Campus of Sun Yat-sen University. The Taekwondo team of the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) won the first prize in the overall team competition score, third place in the mixed team competition for Group A, and several individual awards.

The event was organized by the Guangdong Student Sports & Arts Federation and attracted over a thousand athletes from 74 universities across the province to compete on the same stage. SUSTech’s Taekwondo team was led by Lunhong DONG from the Sports Center, with Yang ZHAO and Yang LU serving as coaches, and a total of 14 athletes were selected to form the team for the competition.

In individual competitive events, Minshi CHEN from Zhiren College, class of 2023, won second place in the women’s sub 55 kg (Bantamweight) category; Zihao LI from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, class of 2025, won second place in the men’s sub 54 kg (Finweight) category; Yida DONG from the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering, class of 2021, won second place in the men’s sub 66 kg (Featherweight) category.

In the team competition, the participating team, composed of Minshi CHEN and Gehui LANGE from Zhiren College, Weiyi ZHANG and Zihao LI from Shuli College, Class of 2022, Tian CHEN from Shuren College, and Hao PENG from Zhi Cheng College, Class of 2023, won third place in the Group A mixed team event.

With the outstanding performance of all team members, SUSTech’s Taekwondo team won the first prize in the overall team event. The excellent results of this competition fully demonstrated the competitive spirit of SUSTech students who strive for excellence and work together with determination.
