On June 18, Xi ZHANG, President of Jilin University and an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, led a delegation to visit the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech). Qikun XUE, President of SUSTech and an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, alongside Hongwei FANG, Vice President and Provost of SUSTech, and Shuhong YU, an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, had a discussion and exchange with the guests.

Qikun XUE welcomed Xi ZHANG and his delegation. He noted that the two universities have built a deep friendship through long-term exchanges and laid a solid foundation for cooperation. He hopes that the two universities can leverage their respective disciplinary strengths to establish practical cooperation in joint laboratory construction, joint talent training, jointly applying for national key research programs and major research platforms, and achieve more collaborative results.

Xi ZHANG gave high praise to the rapid and high-quality development at SUSTech. He remarked that SUSTech’s experiences in organized research, engineer training, and interdisciplinary education reforms are highly valuable as reference models. He looks forward to further deepening their complementary advantages, promoting undergraduate exchanges, joint training of graduate students, and exploring new approaches to flexible, cross-regional talent recruitment, contributing university wisdom and solutions to accelerating the construction of a strong education nation.

During the discussion, both sides had an in-depth exchange on discipline layout, major research platform construction, and faculty development.

Xi ZHANG and his delegation also visited SUSTech’s exhibition hall, the Institute of Robotics Research, the Artificial Intelligence Exhibition Center, and the Cryo-Electron Microscopy Center, gaining detailed insights into the university’s development progress.
