On September 24, 2026, the Center for Language Education (CLE) organized the themed activity “Paint Osmanthus and Learn Chinese” to help international teachers and students experience traditional Chinese festival culture.

CLE Chinese teacher, Associate Professor Wenhui ZHU, introduced the origin and folk customs of the Mid-Autumn Festival, as well as the symbolic meaning of osmanthus flowers in festival culture. Combined with targeted vocabulary teaching, the session helped participants learn relevant cultural knowledge in a relaxed context.
Participants then took part in the traditional Chinese painting experience. Instructors demonstrated brush-holding methods and pigment color-matching skills, and guided everyone to practice drawing osmanthus leaves, flowers, and branches step by step. Starting with basic brushwork, participants gradually finished their own osmanthus paintings on rice paper in a pleasant atmosphere.
With painting as the medium, the activity provided a vivid cultural and language learning experience for international teachers and students, offering them an immersive way to engage with traditional Chinese culture.
