SUSTech and Shandong Province Outstanding Middle Schools hold Seminar on “Joint Cooperation and Mutually Beneficial Partnership”

 On October 12, 2017, the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) and the Shandong Province Outstanding Middle School representatives held a meeting to discuss establishing “Joint Cooperation and a Mutually Beneficial Partnership” in the library 111 lecture hall. Representatives of 13 municipalities,education department leaders and more than 30 secondary schools from Shandong province gathered bringing the total attendance to 55 people. Among the attendees were SUSTech’s President Shiyi Chen, vice-president of Education and Provost Chuanyue Wu, and vice provost Kefu Huang, and the meeting was chaired by Hongjun Zhao, Director of the Admissions Office.

During the seminar, President Chen thanked and welcomed the guests to the campus. He said that after several years of efforts, SUSTech has developed a strong track-record for attracting professors, personnel training, teaching and scientific research, and many other aspects have been developed efficiently. He went on to say that building a first class university is inseparable from cultivating excellent students, and that Shandong is an important province in terms of education, and has supplied SUSTech with excellent students in the past years. He said he looked forward to encouraging more outstanding students to join our ranks.

Chuanyue Wu also gave a speech at the meeting. He said that the Ministry of Education had given SUSTech the chance to explore the establishment of a modern university system and innovative training mechanisms. SUSTech has graduated students for three years in a row, and its talent selection and personnel training have paid off to achieve remarkable results. He said that he hoped the seminar would establish a platform with Shandong’s education sector to strengthen ties, deepen cooperation and train more innovative talents.

Huang then gave a presentation on “student-centered training for top-notch talent”, a comprehensive introduction to the innovation and development model of SUSTech’s undergraduate enrollment and education philosophy.

SUSTech’s Shandong admissions group leader and associate professor Xu Hu then followed with an introduction on the the enrollment in Shandong province and the quality of its students which has consistently improved. The undergraduate students of class 2015 Changan Li and Jingyi Wu shared their experience at the meeting on life at SUSTech.

In the afternoon, the guests visited the campus and biology and chemistry laboratories, and met with teachers and students to hold discussions. They said they were very impressed by the university and its history, and after visiting the campus they feel its environment, new concept, new system, new talent training model and all these key elements leading the reform of China’s higher education are extremely important and they hoped to further strengthen exchanges and cooperation with SUSTech.
