Between January 25 to 26 2018, the Second Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao PM2.5 Study Seminar took place at South University of Science and Technology China. The seminar discussed numerous issues of PM2.5, including the collection and chemical analysis of the particulate matter, modeling numerical simulation, satellite remote sensing, and visualization platform.

South University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), and the Hong Kong Environmental Protection Department (EPD) worked together to organize the seminar. The seminar has provided useful information and advice for the study of PM2.5.

Over 70 delegates from SUSTech, HKUST, South China University of Technology (SCUT), Jinan University (JNU) and officials from many environmental protection departments across the Pearl River Delta attended the seminar. Professors from SUSTech, HKUST and SCUT, delivered impressive reports in the two-day seminar.

Particulate Matter 2.5 (PM2.5) refers to tiny particles or droplets in the air that are less than two and one-half microns or in width. PM 2.5 is one of the major problems of air pollution.

The issue of air quality has aroused the great attention of the Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao governments, leading to their joint study on the issue of PM2.5 since 2015.
