On 22nd February 2018, the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech). Chen Shiyi, president of SUSTech and Bao Xinhe, president of USTC, both signed the document which stated that the two universities would cooperate in the upcoming research and pedagogy projects.
Both sides signed the agreement at the council meeting of the Quantum Information and Quantum Science Institute of Collaborative Innovation, Chinese Academy of Sciences (Quantum Institute of Collaborative Innovation, CAS). This meeting took place in Hefei, Anhui province, in the presence of senior government leaders from Anhui province.
Both sides will deepen collaborations in the following aspects, including talent cultivation, scientific research, resources sharing, and academic communication. The Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) established USTC, integrating the academy’s scientific and academic resources.
“The agreement provides a great opportunity for SUSTech to learn from and collaborate with USTC, a prominent university in China, which enjoys an excellent reputation in quantum science research worldwide,” said President Chen Shiyi. He added, “It is also a chance for SUSTech’s Institute for Quantum Science and Engineering to further integrate into the National Quantum Science Research System and play a bigger role in the advancing of the nation’s Industrial Technology.”
At the meeting, Pan Jianwei, the Academician of CAS and the Dean of Quantum Institute of Collaborative Innovation delivered a Work Report. The Work Report presented the Institute’s achievements and highlights of the year, along with the pragmatic key goals in the coming five years in various fields. These key goals include quantum communication, quantum computing and precise measurement, among other key areas of quantum studies.
