The 1st Family Day Party of Zhiren College Successfully Held
| 09/27/2015

On the night of the Mid-Autumn Day, the full moon and the blooming flowers called families of lots of students to their minds. After elaborate planning and meticulous preparation, a series of theme activities were carried out in Zhiren College to greet and celebrate the 1st Family Day a few days ago, which culminated on September 27 – the Mid-autumn Day and then ended satisfactorily.
The planning of this Family Day originated from a simple discussion among the self-management committee members. Two weeks ago, to help freshmen for Grade 2015 to adapt the college life quickly, the seniors in the self-management committee gathered together to “conspire” some activities memorable for freshmen, under the idea of “doing what they need most”. After heated discussion, they decided to take the opportunity of the traditional Mid-Autumn Day most important in China to hold an elaborate Family Day party. Then, after repeated improvement and adjustment, the series of activities mentioned above were proposed to greet and celebrate the Family Day.
On September 21, an article titled “When the Alzheimer meets brother Hou Yi” was pushed from the official account of Zhiren College, which was the “call-up” of such activities, not only funny but also calling upon all college students to “clear away the dust in corners and tidy up dangerous articles” on Monday and Tuesday to “have the dorms with a new look”. Then, the activities for the 1st Family Day began with this.
On the night of September 23, the dean Xu Baomin, together with the assistant deans Chen Fangyi for academic affairs and Bao Chuanwen for administrative affairs, appeared in some dorms of students as scheduled to visit and know their college life, especially the freshmen for Grade 2015.
On September 25, the professor Zhang Xianke, quite popular among students, appeared on the “Friday Specialty” — “Zhiren Lecture (Special for the Mid-Autumn Day)” with his unique elegance, humor and talent, giving students a spiritual feast about the traditional Chinese festival culture and national emotion.
At 7p.m. on September 29, the members of Zhiren English corner appeared in the 2nd floor of the Kylin book bar, with many juniors “fooled” to come here under the slogan that “please join the Zhiren English corner if you don’t understand English well”, to experience the interesting Mid-autumn culture in English.
The activities for the Family Day culminated on September 27: at noon, lots of “Zhiren family letters” were distributed at the door of the teacher’s office of Zhiren College; at 3p.m., all members began to make snowy mooncakes and meanwhile hang lanterns and paste paper-outs to arrange the party. At 7p.m., the “Zhiren family dinner”, quickly making students lick their lips, began finally, with 11 pots of delicious “big poon choi” that is a traditional specialty in Shenzhen placed for enjoying. Then, the dean Xu Baomin simply introduced the origin and symbolic meaning of such food in his simple speech and meanwhile hoped that all freshmen could take Zhiren college as their homes and enjoy a pleasant life here, so as to boom it finally.
The “Big PoonChoi” spread the smell of food, and the round pot is just like the full moon, standing for reunion, solidarity and friendship, which were also expressed by the gathering of students on the dinner. The assistant dean Chen Fangyi sang together with students who will graduate, and the counselor Li Zhaoting sang a song named One More Tale together with Liu Hangchen from Class 24; Fang Chenyang, the head of the self-management committee, gave a Rap performance…….presenting the implication of reunion. Then, the student Fang Fei presented a Guzheng performance for the music “Fishing Boat in the Evening”, bringing some fresh and elegant atmosphere to the dinner. The mid-autumn night seemed sweeter with the smalls of fruits and osmanthus wine. Finally, the teachers and students all felt joyous both in having delicious food and listening sweet music.
The sudden surprises are always memorable. Our self-management committee prepared a lucky draw with a pair of 2,000-yuan earpieces as the prize, leading to warm and tense atmosphere. It is interesting that one student won the prize but he was absent in the party. Although regrettable, it was still pleasant that classmates gathered here to enjoy the full moon and the reunion.
The “family dinner” not only gave happiness and delicious food, but also presented the cooperation among members of our self-management committee. The support from teachers and the sticking of students to their posts generated the warm and sweetness. If you observed carefully, you would see those going back and forth in the second floor of the activity room for shooting. This activity won the warm applause and high praise from tutors and students, with the tutors Liu Chongyang, Luo Dan, Zhang Jin, etc. and the freshmen and some seniors in the teaching reform class and those of 2012, 2013 and 2014 participated. He Qingyun, a freshman, came in a hurry to participate upon the completion of her father’s birthday party. The space between the 1st and 2nd dormitory buildings, appearing capacious usually, was filled with students in blue uniform.
The dean Xu Baomin said that this was the first “family day” of Zhiren College and will be held again and again in the future years for constant enriching and improvement. Meanwhile, he hoped the students could love the traditional Chinese culture and try their best to explore the function of such culture in college construction.
The weather was also gelivable on the night of the Mid-autumn Day, without any rainfall although it was forecasted; the full moon everybody expected to see appeared on the sky as a big surprise after the dinner, causing one student from the astronomy association to set up his “outfit” to observe stars in the activity room…….the moon shined bright over the sea, brightening the whole of world. Let’s raise our glasses to celebrate for the happiness of gathering, the reunion and the future of Zhiren College!

The “big poon choi” is a culture full of local characteristics. In Shenzhen and even the whole Guangdong province, all family members gave full cooperation to make various delicious food and then mixed them in a big pot for enjoying through sitting together in festivals, thus sharing the warm, harmony and flourish of the whole family.

Of course, the students from Zhiren College are not only foodies, who are also full of talent in not only singing but also playing classical instruments. They are also full of love and could act up and act cute. Of course, there is also a hidden character that it is quite wealthy……so where are the 2,000-yuan earpieces?

Although the full moon appeared late, it was always bright in Zhiren College. With the “family dinner”, the reunion in students and the satisfaction in dinner were both realized.
