The Academy for Advanced Interdisciplinary Studies, Department of Chemistry, Department of Biology, and Guangdong Cellular Microenvironment & Diseases Research Key Laboratory recently hosted the 5th China-Canada Systems Biology Symposium at SUSTech. The theme of the symposium is “Latest Developments in Proteomics, Genomics and Related Analyses of Bioinformatics and The Applications in Basic Biology and Precision Medicine Research.” The symposium was organized by renowned Professor Daniel Figeys from the University of Ottawa, SUSTech Biology Professor Chen Wei, and SUSTech Associate Professor in Chemistry Tian Ruijun. SUSTech Vice President Tang Tao introduced recent developments and academic plans at SUSTech in great detail.

During the symposium, academicians, and experts from universities and research institutes including the University of Ottawa, Salk Institute for Biological Studies in California, Swiss Federal Institute of Technology and Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics made 29 world-class academic presentations, attracting an audience of over 400.

The symposium has promoted academic exchange in systems biology between China and Canada, provided a platform for researchers in related fields to exchange their ideas and findings, and strengthened collaboration ties between SUSTech and well-known universities or research institutes at home and abroad.
