Earlier this month, Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) hosted the first academic committee meeting of the Shenzhen Key Laboratory of Computational Intelligence (Key Laboratory). The Department of Computer Science and Engineering were the organizers of the Academic Committee Meeting and the presentation of the 2018 Academic Report.
SUSTech President Chen Shiyi, Professor Xu Zongben of Xi’an Jiaotong University and Professor Chen Guoliang of Shenzhen University attended the meeting, with Computer Science and Engineering Department Head Yao Xin hosting the event.
President Chen Shiyi thanked everyone in attendance for supporting SUSTech. He said the new Artificial Intelligence major is a strategic development direction for SUSTech, and he hoped the wisdom of the experts and scholars could reach the peaks of artificial intelligence.
Department Head Yao Xin spoke about the development of key laboratories over the last 12 months. He briefed the academic committee experts on a variety of issues, on which the experts put forward several points of constructive opinion. Academic committee experts came from SUSTech, Tsinghua University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
Several academic reports were presentations at the meeting. The reports included titles such as “Parallel and Interactive Computing of Big Data,” “Analysis of Neuromorphological Systems based on Memory Resistance,” “Artificial Intelligence in the Post-Deep Learning Era,” “Deep Learning: From Strongly Supervision of Big Data Driving to Complex Data Driving.” More than 50 faculty members and students attended the reporting of the presentations.
Before the academic reports were presented, the first meeting of the Academic Committee of the Evolutionary Intelligence System Laboratory of Guangdong Province took place. SUSTech officially opened the Laboratory of Evolutionary Intelligent Systems of Colleges and Universities in Guangdong Province on August 30, 2018.
The laboratory relies on SUSTech’s Shenzhen Key Laboratory of Computational Intelligence, focusing on forward-looking basic research in the field of artificial intelligence. The Key Laboratory uses low-energy computing intelligence. The three main research foci are the computational intelligence credibility/reliability theory, methodology of computational intelligence, and computational intelligence autonomous evolution technology. These research foci are based on breakthroughs of current artificial intelligence technology that are challenging to solve.
