The Department of Mathematics held the 2018 Spring Semester Teaching Seminar last weekend. All faculty members, staff and postdoctoral students were involved in the seminar.

The seminar discussed topics related to education, curriculum development and selection, educational technology, teaching methods, and assessment methods. There were also three reports in the seminar, chaired by Chair Professors Xia Zhihong and Li Caiheng, and Associate Professor Li Jingzhi.

Xia Zhihong said that teaching is the most fundamental function of the university. Teachers can’t focus on scientific research and avoid their teaching work. Mathematics plays an important role in the cultivation and progression of students. As an important basic subject of science and engineering universities, the Department of Mathematics not only undertakes the Department’s teaching tasks but also manages the compulsory general mathematics courses across the entire SUSTech campus. He encouraged all faculty members to pay more attention to teaching issues and work together to improve the quality of their teaching.

At the seminar, the lecturers and postdoctoral students summarized their individual teaching work and put forward a lot of constructive opinions.
