SUSTech FinTech Research Center approved as Key Research Base

Shenzhen’s Wuzhou Guesthouse was the site for the 10th Shenzhen Academic Annual Conference and the Shenzhen Humanities and Social Sciences Key Research Base (2019-2021). The conference focused on “Reform and Opening-up and Innovation-oriented Global Urban Construction.”

The first batch of 7 humanities and social sciences key research bases in Shenzhen (2019-2021) were awarded as part of the conference. Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) was honored to have the Center for Financial Technology and Financial Innovation approved as one of the seven key research bases.

SUSTech Council Vice Chairperson Li Fengliang led and guided SUSTech’s application to receive a key research base of humanities and social sciences. The Office of Research prepared five high-quality key research bases for consideration.

Acting Director of the Department of Finance Wang Susheng commissioned the “SUSTech Financial Technology and Financial Innovation Research Center,” which was one of the 7 humanities and social science research bases approved.

The SUSTech Financial Technology and Financial Innovation Research Center relies mainly on the Department of Finance, with the support of the Departments of Mathematics and Computer Science and Engineering. The SUSTech Financial Technology and Financial Innovation Research Center will focus on three significant research directions: financial science and technology, China’s financial stability and financial & insurance actuarial practices.

Through these research hubs, the SUSTech Financial Technology and Financial Innovation Research Center will seek to solve major theoretical and practical issues facing Shenzhen in terms of economic and social development. They will organize high-level theoretical research platforms and conduct in-depth cooperations with government, industry, and institutions to become an academic exchange platform.

The SUSTech Financial Technology and Financial Innovation Research Center will strive to become the pinnacle of financial academia, gathering and cultivating high-level talents, and carrying out high-level academic exchanges. In order to create an influential think tank, the SUSTech Financial Technology and Financial Innovation Research Center will uphold the spirit of SUSTech’s establishment and is committed to serve Shenzhen’s social and economic development.
