From June 1st to 3rd, an advanced photonic conference entitled “Greater Bay Area Symposium for Wave Functional Materials” took place at SUSTech’s Lynn Library. Attendees included scholars and experts from foreign universities such as MIT and Georgia Institute of Technology, as well as universities from Hong Kong like Sun Yat-sen University, Jinan University, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Baptist University, City University of Hong Kong and Hong Kong Polytechnic University. They were joined by CAS Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology, Beihang University, the National University of Defense Technology, Nanjing University, and Suzhou University. 27 representatives from attending universities made informative and engaging presentations at the symposium.

The discussion revolved around the latest research developments in optical, non-linear optical and acoustic superstructure materials, optical superstructure surface, optical micro-cavity, optical sensing, optical storage, the processing of nano-optical devices, and topological optics. Scholar and experts also discussed collaborative opportunities and exchange possibilities among the universities they represented.

The symposium was sponsored by SUSTech, Shenzhen University, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and Harbin Institute of Technology, Shenzhen. SUSTech’s Department of Materials Science and Engineering organized the event, with Associate Professor Li Guixin serving as convener and committee member. He has joined with other committee members in deciding to make this symposium an annual event.
