On September 20, 2018, the Nature Index 2018 Rising Star, showed that 51 of the world’s 100 fastest-rising organizations were from China. Among them, Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) was ranked fourth.

The Nature Index 2018 Rising Stars specifically pointed out that they paid special attention to young universities that were established after 1988 and outlined the scientific progress they have made. The universities explicitly discussed SUSTech, which has more than four times the index’s growth and ranks first among the rising stars of young universities.

Nature said that this issue of the magazine showed the countries and institutions that have seen the most significant growth in high-quality scientific research output in the past three years. The measurement tool used is a natural index that tracks the research output of more than 8,000 institutions worldwide. The ranking of the world’s 100 fastest-rising global indices is based on the growth of papers published in 82 high-quality journals between 2015 and 2017.
