On May 4, the College of Engineering at Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) held an exchange conference for its young teachers that are working to advance along the tenure track. SUSTech University Council Chairperson Yurong GUO, Vice-Chairperson Fengliang LI, and Vice President Dongxiao ZHANG all attended the exchange conference.

College of Engineering Dean Zhenghe XU, College of Engineering Party Committee Secretary Hong WANG joined young teachers and shared their views on academic life. The meeting was chaired by Associate Professor Dan LUO from the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE).

University Council Chairperson Yurong GUO sent her holiday wishes to the young teachers. She encouraged them to continue their unremitting efforts as they continued to pursue their academic and scientific pursuits. Chairperson Yurong GUO affirmed the role played by the College of Engineering Party Committee in developing the College into a positive and life-affirming institution that encourages innovative education, cutting-edge research for the development of the region, the country, and the world. She encouraged the young teachers to cherish their youth and continue to represent the SUSTech spirit as they work together for a brighter future.

College of Engineering Party Committee Secretary Wang Hong (and Department of Materials Science and Engineering Chair Professor) introduced the Youth Development Association, which seeks to accelerate the growth and development of young teachers within the College of Engineering. It also aims to accelerate the growth and development of young teachers while promoting the cooperation, exchange, and sharing of young teachers of the College, through mutual exchange and cross-disciplinary research.

EEE Associate Professor Dan LUO and Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) Associate Professor Guixin LI, MSE Professor Zhouguang LU, and Department of Ocean Science and Engineering Chair Professor Qingsong LIU all shared their views.

College of Engineering Dean Zhenghe XU shared his own experiences, encouraging the young teachers to combine their research goals with the economic development of Shenzhen, and the advantages of the Greater Bay Area.

Vice President Dongxiao ZHANG affirmed the thinking of the young teachers. He reviewed his participation in the policy of the university tenure system while sharing his thoughts on obtaining tenure.

University Council Vice Chairperson Fengliang LI closed the meeting by saying the ten years of development of SUSTech has seen it develop a culture that encourages progress. He hoped that the young teachers would integrate their research with regional innovation, so SUSTech plays a greater role in the industrial transformation of the Greater Bay Area.
