SUSTech colleges and schools hold degree-granting ceremonies

Between July 5 and 6, the College of Science, the College of Engineering, the School of Medicine, the College of Business, and the School of Innovation & Entrepreneurship, all held online-offline degree-granting ceremonies for the Class of 2020.

The College of Science held its degree-awarding ceremony on July 5. Acting Vice President Fuquan FANG, College of Science Dean Xueming YANG, College of Science Vice Dean Jiaqing HE, School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship Dean Ke LIU, Graduate School Vice Dean Shuanghua YANG all attended the ceremony. 432 students and 64 teacher representatives attended the ceremony across one central venue and twelve sub-venues across campus, with the live broadcast attracting over twenty thousand views.

Acting Vice President Fuquan FANG blessed the graduates and hoped that they would continue to contribute to the development of society.

College of Science Dean Xueming YANG hoped that the graduating students would work to serve society through their scientific and technological developments. They should continue to develop their skills to forge ahead and remain devoted to their mission.

The College of Engineering also held its degree-awarding ceremony on July 5. Vice President Dongxiao ZHANG, College of Engineering Dean Zhenghe XU, College of Engineering Hong WANG and Graduate School Vice Dean Shuanghua YANG all attended the ceremony. It was simulcast to 24 sub-venues across campus. Over 600 students and teachers participated in the ceremony, with over twelve thousand people watching the online broadcast.

Vice President Dongxiao ZHANG congratulated the graduates and thanked the SUSTech community who had supported these students through their countless efforts. He praised the students who had faced their challenges during this difficult time.

College of Engineering Dean Zhenghe XU affirmed the high-quality research achievements of everyone in the College of Engineering. Even though the graduates were leaving SUSTech, he hoped that they would still maintain their spirit of perseverance.

The School of Medicine was the third school to hold its degree-awarding ceremony on July 5. They awarded degrees to students graduating from the Biomedical Sciences major. Acting Vice President Dongfeng GU, Communications and Public Relations Director Ling ZHANG and School of Medicine Dean Mingzhao XING all attended the ceremony.

Acting Vice President Dongfeng GU spoke to the graduating students, saying that as they leave SUSTech, there will be both brickbats and bouquets along the way. We hope that the students will continue to adhere to the SUSTech spirit as they progress further in life.

School of Medicine Dean Mingzhao XING sent his hopes and wishes to the students. He hoped that the School of Medicine students would be responsible members of society, push forward in their careers, and be physically and mentally healthy. He said to the graduates, “The School of Medicine at SUSTech will always support, protect, and love you. Our faculty will always care about you, and we will always welcome you home!”

On July 6, the College of Business held its degree-awarding ceremony. University Council Vice Chairperson Fengliang LI and College of Business Dean Wei HUANG attended the main ceremony.

University Council Vice Chairperson Fengliang LI encouraged the graduating students to carry on the SUSTech spirit in light of the ever-changing times. The endless challenges will allow them to remain ambitious while achieving their goals embedded within their original mission.

College of Business Dean Wei HUANG said that the graduates should integrate their financial and management knowledge to carry out their academic plans and advance into the 21st century to contribute to an innovative China.

The School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship held the last degree-awarding ceremony on the afternoon of July 6. Acting Vice President Yusheng ZHAO, School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship Dean Ke LIU, and Graduate School Vice Dean Shuanghua YANG all attended the ceremony. They were joined by BYD Central Research Institute President Qing GONG and China Guangdong Nuclear Power Group Executive Director Xiong YIN. The blended, online-offline, ceremony saw more than twenty thousand online viewers tune in.

Acting Vice President Yusheng ZHAO hoped that the graduates would continue to carry on the SUSTech spirit with a global outlook and higher wisdom. They should continue to broaden their horizons to become fearless and ambitious as they seek to contribute to China’s development.

School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship Dean Ke LIU added that every graduating student should be an independent thinker that respects themselves and common sense. He reminded those present not to give up easily. He hoped that they would write a more magnificent chapter of youth with the SUSTech spirit.
