On January 23, Vice-Chancellor Eliezer Shalev of Guangdong Technion-Israel Institute of Technology (GTIIT) visited Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) where Vice Provost (Global Strategies) Zheng Chunmiao met them.
GTIIT is a joint cooperative higher education institution, combining the world-famous Techion-Israel Institute of Technology and Shantou University. It is the first Chinese-foreign cooperative university in China that has introduced Israel’s high-quality education resources and has independent legal personality.
Zheng Chunmiao said that both GTIIT and SUSTech were pioneering and innovative institutions of higher education in Guangdong Province, and thus have shared many similar characteristics since their establishments. It is hoped that the two universities can learn from each other, identify opportunities, seek cooperation, and jointly contribute to the construction and prosperity of Guangdong Province and the Great Bay Area.
Eliezer Shalev said that the establishment of GTIIT relied on the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology and benefited from the strong support of the Guangdong provincial and Shantou municipal governments. As a university that aims to cultivate talents in science and technology, GTIIT and SUSTech have similarities in operating their universities. However, he emphasized that they also have their own distinctive characteristics and he looked forward to cooperation and exchange in education and scientific research in the future.
GTIIT and SUSTech talked about a wide variety of topics, including scientific research cooperation, student exchanges, joint training, and undergraduate enrollment.
The delegation also paid a visit to the 3D campus planning sand table and were taken on a guided tour around the campus.
