On the eve of the Chinese Lunar New Year, students and staff rang in the Chinese Lunar New Year at Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech)on Monday. At noon on February 4, 2019, SUSTech hosted the 2019 Spring Festival New Year’s Luncheon in the student cafeteria. University Council Chairperson Guo Yurong joined more than 600 guests, including parent and family representatives, to ring out the Old Year and ring in the New Year.
The student cafeteria was decorated with lights and was full of joy. The red lanterns, the orange trees, the beautiful Chinese knots and the “福” (the Chinese character that represents good fortune and blessings), all brought out the joyful and peaceful atmosphere of the festival. The teachers and students who have stayed at the school during the holiday enjoyed delicacies cooked by the canteen chefs and exchanged greetings. The site was full of laughter, and they shared the joy of the New Year and wished a better tomorrow together with the guests.
Chairperson Guo Yurong gave the New Year blessings to students on behalf of the University Council and extended her sincere thanks to the service staff who continued working in their positions during the festival. She said that as more and more people gathered at SUSTech, it has become more and more energetic and vibrant.
Students from SUSTech Experiment Education Group performed the dance “Super Champion”. Zhicheng College student Qin Guoyang performed magic tricks and his own lyrics of the song “SUSTech Love”, an expression for the deep feeling of blessing to the school.
The university leaders and academicians present were invited to toast to the New Year with the teachers and students, and wish the school better and better in the future!
To the sound of cheerful music, students and teachers enjoyed the feast, shared the fun of the happy event and sent each other good wishes!
