China Hi-Tech Fair 2015 was opened on November 16. Making its first appearance on CHTF, SUSTC had an exhibition area at the booth numbered 8A01 in No. 8 exhibition hall. The exhibition area of SUSTC was neat with reasonable layout, giving prominence to the key points and emphasizing interaction, which manifested the spirit of SUSTC. A large LED screen and posters were used to introduce SUSTC and its faculty. Nearly 20 original scientific research fruits of SUSTC’s professors and students were exhibited, attracting much attention from visitors.
A Comprehensive Presentation of SUSTC’s Overall Image
In order to better present the overall image, strength and future planning of SUSTC, high-level exhibition area design, multi-layered content preparation, unique and eye-catching style display and multiform presentation ways were applied in the exhibition. The service and reform missions, educational objectives, educational characteristics, faculty, talent training, disciplines and programs, scientific research bases, institutional innovation, scientific research, international cooperation, campus image and second phase planning of SUSTC were comprehensively presented through a large LED screen, posters, television and material objects, etc., which enabled the high-tech industry, business circles, the higher education circle and even the whole society to have a more sufficient understanding of SUSTC and to have closer communication with SUSTC.
A Major Exhibition of Professors’ Scientific Research Projects
Participation in CHTF has been the recent focus of SUSTC. Various departments including Department of Physics, Department of Mathematics, Department of Chemistry, Department of Financial Mathematics and Financial Engineering, Department of Materials Science and Engineering, Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Department of Biology and School of Environmental Science and Engineering paid high attention to the work and made preparations actively. Relevant administrative units cooperated actively, making posters to fully introduce the scientific research team and present the scientific research level of SUSTC. Moreover, some departments and professors exhibited their scientific research fruits, visually presenting the scientific research strength of SUSTC to visitors. For example, the extension production system of wide band gap UV sensor developed by Wang Gan, Assistant Professor of the Department of Physics; the UAV pan and tilt head tracking virtual reality system developed by Hao Qi, Associate Professor of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering; the thermo-electric device developed by Professor He Jiaqing from the Department of Physics; the triboelectric nano generator (TENG) and energy harvester developed by Wang Fei, Associate Professor of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering; the quantum dot materials, packaging device and display module developed by Assistant Professor Wang Kai and Professor Zhang Xinhai from the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering; the industry-academia-research fruit of Li Jingzhi, Associate Professor of the Department of Mathematics; the new oxygen sensor materials developed by Professor Tian Yanqing from the Department of Materials Science and Engineering; the MMW human body security check imaging system and the MMW non-invasive blood glucose measurement system developed by Professor Chen Yifan from the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering; the G-Touch display machine and the intelligent finance healthcare joint laboratory project developed Luo Zongwei, Associate Professor of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering; and the WiFi blending high-speed VLC system developed by Wang Rui, Associate Professor of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering are brand new breakthroughs with originality and creativity in their respective fields, becoming important representations of the scientific research strength of SUSTC as well as important projects of SUSTC seeking for industry-academia-research collaboration with the society in CHTF 2015.
Eye-catching Maker Projects from Students
Maker projects from SUSTC’s students are also exhibited. As the news of SUSTC’s participation in CHTF spread, students actively applied for participation in the exhibition. After serious selection, five maker projects from students were accepted, including the robot integrating functions of underwater submarine-like movement and underwater mechanical arm carrying and having uses of underwater detection, underwater maintenance and underwater salvage developed by SUSTC Maker Marathon Team; the cloudPrint system developed by SUSTC Computer Research Association setting printers at certain location, with which documents can be printed after being uploaded onto the online website; the open source fixed wing aerial carrier called “Yingzhao”(eagle claw) developed by SUSTC Model Airplane Association, which realizes programmable flight and can satisfy the needs of different fight missions such as aerial photography, mapping and sensor test; the open source 3D printer and original model design developed by SUSTC student makers; and the LED rotational display lamp developed by SUSTC Zhiyan Association, which displays characters and images by controlling the shining time of the lamp in high-speed rotation, with the rotating LED lamp as the display medium. The presentation of students’ maker projects manifested the spirit of innovation and passion in scientific research of SUSTC’s students and enhanced the interactivity and vividness of the exhibition, showing the scientific research potential and vision of SUSTC as well as the vigorous growth of its outstanding and innovative talents.
