On November 16, 2015, a technological investigation delegation from Yunnan Province visited South China University of Science and Technology of China (SUSTC), and signed a strategic framework agreement with SUSTC on technological cooperation. The delegation members included Long Jiang, director of the Yunnan Provincial Science and Technology Department; Ji Yibiao, deputy director of the Yunnan Provincial Department of Finance; Sun Haiqing, deputy director of the Yunnan Provincial Department of Agriculture; Xie Xiaoyang, deputy inspector of the Yunnan Provincial Industry & Information Technology Commission, etc. Chairman of University Coucil Li Ming, President Chen Shiyi, Vice President Qin Zheng, Wu Chuanyue and Tang Tao, and other leaders of SUSTC accompanied the delegation for the investigation.​​​​

Subsequently, the delegation visited some laboratories of SUSTC’s Department of Chemistry and Department of Biology, listening to SUSTC’s professors’ introductions to research situation. Yunnan attaches great importance to pharmaceutical project introduction, which coincides with SUSTC’s researches on chemical pharmaceutical and biological pharmaceutical, said Long.​

At the seminar, Chen introduced the general information of university running to the delegation. As an innovative university which advances with the times, SUSTC pursues the integrated development of research, innovation and entrepreneurship. Within only five years, SUSTC has developed rapidly as Shenzhen where it is located has done. The technological education cooperation between SUSTC and Yunnan shows SUSTC’s determination to have the motherland in mind and the world in view, and the Shenzhen Municipal Government’s ardent expectation of SUSTC, he said. Yunnan is a large agricultural province, SUSTC has a school of life science with over 150 professors who are committed to food safety and nutrition development, and the two sides can carry out exchanges in a lot of fields, he noted, expecting to deepen cooperation with Yunnan. Besides, SUSTC recruited students in Yunnan this year for the first time and enrolled a host of excellent students, which was attributable to the strong support from Yunnan, hopefully SUSTC will recruit more excellent students in Yunnan, he added.​

“As an experimental field for China’s education reform, SUSTC has drawn universal attention from the country and the world. SUSTC has good orientation and objectives, strong faculty, excellent students and outstanding top-level design. I believe that SUSTC will achieve its objectives as scheduled and even in advance, and expect SUSTC to be an example of reform and innovation to other domestic universities,” Long noted in a speech. He introduced the situation of technological and economic development in Yunnan, adding that Yunnan and SUSTC can cooperate in a lot of fields. He also expected to promote the construction of SUSTC Yunnan Innovation Research Institute, and hoped that SUSTC’s research findings and innovation achievements would create value for Yunnan.​

In his speech, Li extended heartfelt thanks to Yunnan for its strong support to SUSTC, welcomed the delegation and was optimistic about the prospect of cooperation between the two sides. The cooperation agreement signed by SUSTC and the Yunnan Provincial Science and Technology Department has built a bridge of cooperation between the two sides, he noted, expecting the two sides to carry out in-depth cooperation in specific projects, so as to yield fruitful results and promote common development.
